Dough:
1 cup Butter or Oil
3 Eggs
1 cup Honey
1 cup Date sugar or Sucanat
3-3/4 cups Natural Flour, your choice or mixture
1 tsp Vanilla extract
1 tsp Baking soda
2 tsps Baking powder
1 tsp. Salt
Dough Directions:
Cream together butter, sweetner, vanilla and eggs. Mix flour, salt, soda, and baking powder; add to egg mixture and mix well. Chill about 2 hours.
Fig Preserves Filling:
1-1/2 cups of ground figs (your choice)
1-1/4 cups of water
1/2 cup Honey
1/2 cup water
1 Tbsp. flour
Fig Filling Directions:
Cut up figs; grind or blend; mix in 1-1/4 cups of water to make a fig mixture. Cook for about 5 minutes on medium heat, stirring constantly. Mix honey, water and flour. Stir honey mixture into the fig mixture and continue to cook until thick. Remove from heat and stir in 1/4 cup ground nuts and 2 Tbsp. of orange juice. Cool mixture
Preheat oven to 275 degrees F. Divide dough in half and roll into 18 X 12 inch rectangle.
Cut into 4 (3 inch wide) strips. Place filling down the center of strips. Fold sides up and over the filling. Place seam down on baking trays 2 inches apart. Bake about 15 minutes at 275 degrees. Cool and cut into 2 inch bars. Makes about 4 dozen. .
