SHILOH FARMS Buckwheat Groats are light in color with a distinctive triangular shape and a mild, nutty flavor. Rich in fiber, protein, and complex carbohydrates, buckwheat is also an excellent source of vitamins and minerals, particularly magnesium, copper, phosphorus, and B Vitamins.
Technically the hulled seeds of the buckwheat plant, buckwheat is a pseudocereal with many grain-like properties. First cultivated over 8,000 years ago in Southeast Asia, it was one of the first crops introduced to North America by early European settlers and remains a culinary staple in Eastern Europe and the Balkans.
Despite its name, buckwheat contains no wheat or gluten and is actually a common ingredient in many gluten free recipes.
To Cook: Sort* and rinse. Add 1 part groats to 2 parts water and bring to a boil. Cover and simmer 15-25 minutes, or until grain is tender and liquid is absorbed.
For more flavor, try toasting the buckwheat before cooking. To do so, coat the groats with 1 Tbsp. of oil for every cup of groats and place in a heavy skillet over medium heat. Toast, stirring frequently, until they become a shade darker and very aromatic, about 4-5 minutes. At this point, add the buckwheat to the boiling water and continue with cooking instructions above.
Suggestions:
1. Dress up cooked groats with lots of browned onions and a bit of parsley or dill.
2. Add to soups, stews, casseroles, or whole grain pilafs.
3. Mix with vegetables and herbs for a hearty filling for stuffed peppers or stuffed cabbage.
4. Use groats as a substitute for rice or bulgur.
5. Cook in milk or fruit juice for a tasty hot cereal. Finish with your choice of sweeteners, dried fruits, or nuts.

I buy all organic grown in U.S. or Canada. Shiloh Farms carries very high quality products and is a trustworthy company. I have been a customer for years and everything I have ever purchased from Shiloh Farms has been delicious and healthy. The prices are also very fair and I love the wide selection of products especially grains and beans. The products are packaged well. I wish they sold in bulk. Also their Seven Grain bread is excellent!

When I couldn't find Buckwheat Groats anywhere else, Shiloh Farms had them. Organic, high quality and so good for us! I soak them overnight in milk, date syrup, vanilla, sometimes add some canned pumpkin and some kind of dried fruit and refrigerate them. In the morning I add granola or other dry cereals, some fresh fruits and we have a hearty, delicious breakfast without heating up the kitchen.

Finally being able to locate GF buckwheat to make into buckwheat flour....I can't tell you how long I have searched online and in stores for a product like this. Thanks Shiloh, for caring enough to bring products like this to those with food allergies.

These raw groats are very clean and do not have any residual black hulls like groats from other brands have.
