No longer satisfied with just being that "other" nut in the snack mix, creamy and delicately sweet SHILOH FARMS Brazil Nuts demand to be recognized in their own right as a delicious and healthy snack! High in protein, magnesium, phosphorus, manganese, and zinc, brazil nuts are one of the best natural sources of selenium. In fact, a single serving contains over 5x the recommended daily value of this important trace mineral! As with many nuts, brazil nuts are also rich in heart-healthy Omega-3 fatty acids.
The brazil nut is technically not a true nut, but rather the edible seed of one of the largest of trees in the Amazon rainforest. Brazil nut trees can grow to over 160 feet tall (and 6½ feet in diameter) and may live for up to 1,000 years! Widely found throughout Brazil, Bolivia, and Peru, a mature tree can produce 250-500 pounds of unshelled nuts in a single year, and nuts are harvested from an estimated 250,000-400,000 trees annually.
Suggestions:
1. Coarsely ground brazil nuts make a tasty garnish for green vegetables such as green beans or asparagus.
2. Add to granolas and trail mixes for an exotic twist.
3. Chop and use in place of macadamia and other nuts for cookies, breads, cakes, and candies.
4. Grind in food processor with salt & seasonings for a homemade nut butter.
5. Add to stuffings, grain dishes, or salads.
6. Sprinkle chopped nuts over fruit, yogurt, or cereal.
Storage: Due to their fat content, brazil nuts are extremely perishable and care should be taken in their storage. To maximize shelf life, we recommend storing nuts in an airtight container in your refrigerator or freezer.
